Discovering the Beautiful Aspects of Vision

I’m Hayley Brunsden, the Founder and Optometrist at CBTR Opticians, located in Beaconsfield Old Town, Buckinghamshire.

My practice is an independent, national
award-winning opticians dedicated to providing exceptional eyecare and personal service.

Inspiring Lives

My passion for providing exceptional clinical care and world-class eyewear, combined with my drive to continually improve, has fuelled every milestone along the way.

My journey into eye care began 14 years ago when, at 18, I started as an Optical Receptionist at my local village opticians. My enthusiasm for the field quickly grew, prompting me to complete the Dispensing Optician course alongside working. Eager to deepen my knowledge, I then trained to become a Contact Lens Optician, but my thirst for learning didn’t stop there. I took a sabbatical year to complete the Optometry Conversion Course at the University of Bradford, where I graduated with First Class Honours. After 7 years of study, I gained valuable experience as a locum before stepping into the role of Head of Optometry for an independent group practice in Oxfordshire. When that business was sold, I knew it was time to follow my dream, which led to the creation of CBTR Opticians.

Do it! I know I’m biased, but I truly believe it’s the best job in the world. There aren’t many careers that blend healthcare with fashion, and that’s what makes optometry so unique. I love the diversity of it. Being able to help people from a healthcare perspective, while also seeing them leave feeling amazing and confident in their new eyewear.

It’s incredibly rewarding to make a difference to someone’s life, both in terms of their health and their confidence. I honestly don’t think there’s anything else quite like it.

The most beautiful aspect of vision is that it’s in everything we do.

Take a moment to close your eyes and imagine that being your view forever. Never being able to see a sunset, a smile, or the stars again. Vision is something we often take for granted, but when we pause to truly appreciate it, we realise just how beautiful and essential it is. It connects us to the world in such a profound way, and that’s what makes it so extraordinary.

What is your definition of
life’s moments? How do you think it is linked to vision?

  • I believe beauty is everywhere we choose to see it. Life’s moments aren’t always the grand, extraordinary events; they’re often in the “mundane” ones. The walk to the shops, our morning coffee, sitting on a train. These small, everyday moments can hold so much beauty, but we often miss them in the rush of life. I think vision plays a huge role in this - it allows us to experience the world around us, to notice those fleeting moments, and to truly appreciate the richness of life. We just need to slow down and take the time to really see.

What do you believe is the most beautiful aspect of vision?

I think my clients can really see my passion shine through in everything I do. I always say that glasses are the most important accessory - not only do they sit in the middle of your face, often the first thing people notice about you, but they also give you the incredible gift of sight.

What everyday moments make you appreciate the importance of vision?

Everyday moments that make me truly appreciate the importance of vision include navigating busy streets, whether I’m walking or driving. The ability to move through the world safely and confidently, especially in fast-paced environments, is something I never take for granted. Whether it’s crossing a road, spotting a familiar face in a crowd, or moving around in my daily environment, these moments remind me just how essential our sight is to our safety and independence.

How do your personal passions, hobbies, sports or interests impact your perception of why good vision is important?

My hobbies include walking the dog, hiking, and going to the gym. They each have a significant impact on my perception of why good vision is so important. When walking the dog, clear vision helps me navigate the environment safely, avoid obstacles, and fully appreciate the surroundings.

Hiking, especially in more challenging terrain, underscores the need for good vision to safely assess the path ahead, avoid hazards, and take in the breathtaking views. The ability to see clearly while in nature makes these experiences all the more rewarding.

"We aim to improve the lives of every client who walks through our door."

Why do you choose Nikon Lenswear for your clients?

I decided to partner with Nikon Lenswear for my clients for several key reasons. Their lenses are manufactured in the UK using renewable energy, which promotes sustainability whilst supporting local jobs. Nikon’s technology is among the finest in the world, ensuring that our clients receive lenses of exceptional quality and performance.

Additionally, they share our values, recognising that our environmental impact is just as important as the quality of our vision care.

What is your favourite thing about Nikon Spectacle Lenses? What is the benefit you get from using these lenses?

My favourite thing about Nikon Spectacle lenses is their world-leading innovation combined with UK production. It means my lenses are crafted with precision and cutting-edge technology, ensuring exceptional quality that aligns perfectly with my values. The biggest benefit is peace of mind. I never have to worry about my vision. Whether I’m driving at night, reading on the beach, or walking in the rain, I know I’m effortlessly covered with the best vision possible.

Is there a new technology from Nikon Lenswear that has had a significant impact for your patients?

Yes! For me, it was Nikon Lenswear’s incredible advancement in lens treatments, specifically
SeeCoat™ Next Drive.

One of the most common complaints I hear from patients is the difficulty of dealing with modern headlight glare when driving at night. Being able to offer a solution that significantly reduces glare and enhances visual comfort has been a game-changer.

It’s made such a difference for my patients, giving them greater confidence and safety on the road.

What does being a Nikon Lenswear Moment Maker mean for your business?

As a relatively new business owner, I’m truly honoured to be a Nikon Lenswear Moment Maker. Partnering with Nikon Lenswear was an obvious choice. Their world-leading innovation and commitment to sustainability perfectly align with my values. Being a Nikon Lenswear Moment Maker is the perfect cherry on top, further reinforcing my commitment to providing bespoke, high-quality eyecare that allows my clients to live every moment to the fullest.
