Precision, Expertise and Innovation

Protecting Vision
My name is Craig McArthur. I am an Optometrist and owner of Peter Ivins Eye Care, a multi-award winning, truly independent optometric practice in Bearsden, a leafy suburb North West of Glasgow in Scotland.
A Commitment to Clinical Excellence
At Peter Ivins Eye Care, we are not just about correcting sight, we are about preserving vision for a lifetime.
Our goal is to be more than just an optometric practice; we aim to be a part of our local community, we strive to be a centre of excellence for specialist eye care, pioneering advancements in myopia management, dry eye disease, glaucoma care, complex contact lens fitting, and retinal health.
We are driven by a passion for preventative eye care, ensuring that our clients receive early detection, personalised treatment plans, and access to the most advanced solutions available.
Our philosophy is rooted in expertise, innovation, and a deep commitment to client well-being. We believe that every client deserves exceptional care, tailored to their unique visual needs and lifestyle.
Ultimately, our ambition is to set new standards in optometric care, ensuring that our clients receive the very best in vision and ocular health.
An accident playing youth football as a teenager first sparked my interest in optometry.
My countless follow-up visits to the local ophthalmology clinic became more than just check-ups; they were an introduction to a world that fascinated me. I found myself drawn to the precision, the technology, and the skill involved in restoring vision. Each visit made me more certain that I wanted to swap my football boots for an ophthalmoscope.
But the true turning point came later. My late grandfather lost his sight in his later years. My abiding childhood memory of him is sitting in his armchair by the window, surrounded by newspapers and a small television showing live football. Losing his vision robbed him of those simple daily joys and, ultimately, his independence.
That experience solidified my decision. I wanted to dedicate my career to preserving sight and helping others avoid the same fate.
The most rewarding moments in my job are the ones where I see the direct impact of my work on a client’s life. It’s the child who puts on their first pair of spectacles and suddenly sees the world in crisp detail, their face lighting up with excitement. It’s the dry eye sufferer who, after years of discomfort, finally experiences relief thanks to a treatment plan tailored just for them. It’s the glaucoma patient whose disease was caught early, preserving their sight and their independence.

How do you feel when you see the positive effects of your work on your clients?
Every day, I get to see the immediate and long-term effects of vision care - whether it’s preventing sight loss, improving someone’s daily quality of life, or simply giving them confidence in their vision. Knowing that I’ve helped someone regain their independence, comfort, or clarity makes every challenge worth it.

What do you believe is the most beautiful aspect of vision?
The most beautiful aspect of vision is the ability to shape how we experience the world - not just physically, but emotionally.
Why is it important to choose the right spectacle lenses?
Choosing the right spectacle lenses is just as important, if not more so, than selecting the right frames. Lenses are the true powerhouse of your glasses, responsible for delivering clear, comfortable vision tailored to your lifestyle, prescription, and long-term eye health.

"Trust, transparency and clinical excellence are at the core of everything we do."

Optometry isn’t just about prescribing glasses. It’s about preventing blindness, managing complex diseases, and giving clients clarity - both literally and figuratively. I was drawn to the challenge of problem-solving, the precision of the science, and the deep human connection that comes with guiding clients through their eye health journeys. There’s something profoundly rewarding about diagnosing a subtle condition others might miss or seeing a child’s face light up when they experience clear vision for the first time.
Sight is our most dominant sense, shaping how we experience the world, and I want to ensure no one takes that gift for granted. Every day, I help people see their world clearly, and for me, there is no greater reward than that.
